Who's Rich Enough?

I always knew I was very blessed and felt very grateful for everything God had given me, not just physically but friends and family including the best husband a person could ask, a wonderful job and most importantly salvation through his son Jesus!

However, I could sometimes forget just how blessed I was, especially when I started seeing things I wanted to buy, when that happened I also felt like I never had enough money for all the things I wanted. Then something happened...I was browsing through the Compassion website (for fun) and I realised that if I did a bit less shopping I could totally change the life of a child in desperate poverty and not only provide for them physically but allow them to hear the wonderful news of Jesus and bring hope into their situation!
So I decided I should do that sometime soon but then I saw the photo of one particular little girl and she looked so sad and had such a look of hopelessness in her eyes that it melted my heart and I knew that I had to start sponsoring her right away. Since I signed up to sponsor her I felt the need for so many things fall away, I still love to look at pretty things and enjoy buying treats but now instead of thinking "I don't have enough", I think "Wow, I have so much!", and whenever I think about what I'm giving up by sponsoring her I think about the amazing gain that my money is effecting and how that is so much better than anything I could buy myself. Also, I get to participate in a wonderful new relationship with her and forge a new friendship across the world!
Sponsoring a Compassion child has really help me re-focus on how blessed I am and has helped me to be grateful for all the many blessings God has brought into my life, even little things like the ability to buy maple syrup! I think the question that we should be asking is not "Am I rich enough?", but "How can I share the riches that I do have", often through sharing more we realise how much we really have!  :)

  1. Nice post Jess (see you for pikelets and maple syrup tomorrow)!

  2. I am with you 100% The same thing happened to me....I was selfish, thinking that I had nothing. Then I became a correspondent and later a sponsor thru Compassion and realized that I have sooooo much. God has blessed us to bless others :)

    1. Thanks for your encouraging comment! The other day I made a magnet for our fridge and guess what it says "Blessed to be a Blessing!" :) Yay for Jesus connecting us even though we're miles (and KM ;)) apart! :)

Leave a comment :) I'd love to hear from you! :)
